At Summit High School, learning goes beyond the classroom. Students participate in multi-day wilderness expeditions that include backpacking in the Grand Canyon, conservation trips across Northern Arizona, and environmental service projects such as Oak Creek cleanups.
These immersive experiences blend outdoor recreation with place-based learning, skill-building, and community service. Students gain practical knowledge, develop outdoor skills, and form meaningful connections to the environment and their communities—all while enjoying stunning views, shared meals, and lasting camaraderie.
These trips promote teamwork, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment. As students take on physical challenges and contribute to stewardship projects, they grow in self-confidence and build a deeper sense of responsibility toward protecting natural spaces.
Thanks to community support—including Arizona tax credit donations and fundraisers hosted by local restaurants—these enriching opportunities are available to students at little or no cost.
